A Modern Family Home with Melteca Warmth and Texture

What began as a compact villa in Grey Lynn has been beautifully reimagined by interior designer Melanie Sa’u into a spacious, functional home for a growing family. With an emphasis on warmth, practicality, and refined design, the project showcases how thoughtful space planning and smart material choices can transform everyday living.

To streamline the previously segmented layout, Melanie introduced custom cabinetry throughout the home in the kitchen, walk-in-wardrobe and bathroom, using a striking combination of Melteca® Seasoned Oak and Borders Oak in the Organic finish. This pairing of light and dark woodgrains not only enhances contrast but also brings visual consistency across key zones — from the kitchen and wardrobes to the bathroom vanities.

A standout feature is the cleverly integrated dining table extension, crafted to match the cabinetry for a cohesive, built-in look. Smart details such as a hidden pantry, contrasting interior and exterior cabinet tones, and dark bronze hardware add a tailored, contemporary edge.

The result is a warm, modern family home that feels calm, connected, and carefully considered — all anchored by the timeless aesthetic of Melteca’s natural wood finishes.
