Case Study: A Coastal Container Home Reinvented

When Laminex sent us this case study, we were SO excited to share it with you. Interior designer Alex Walls and partner Corban Walls have transformed their Whananaki beach house into a thoughtfully crafted retreat for family getaways and Airbnb stays.

Originally built using relocated shipping containers, the home has been updated with a focus on enduring materials and tactile, natural finishes. Melteca’s Parisian Oak and Moccasin surfaces by Laminex provide warmth and texture throughout, delivering the look of real timber with added durability for high-use areas like the kitchen and hallway cabinetry. The island benchtop in Laminam Supernova Luna White adds elegance with its slim, porcelain profile—ideal for a home that welcomes guests year-round.

A Collaboration of Quality Brands

Several Residium exhibitors feature in this renovation. The sleek rangehood has been custom-finished in microcement by Novacolor, bringing an artisanal edge to the kitchen. The kitchen mixer is an Elysian Commercial Pull-Out Mixer by ABI Interiors, while Powersurge’s oversized Beam Handles add a handcrafted detail that completes the look.

All of the Laminex products used in this stunning project are available to view at Residium, with take-home sampls available for both Melteca Colours.
